On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, Rotary Club of Calcutta Avyanna felicitated the teachers and children of a humble little school at Jharkhali, Sundarbans, that has been making earnest efforts at educating children in that area who are mostly from the BPL sector.
Club President, Rtn Apala Datta, personally visited the school on the 2nd of September 2021, on behalf of all Club Members. The school, called Udyogi Patha Bhavan, with its thatched roofs and bamboo walls, extends basic education to children, from classes1-4.
After being warmly received with a Welcome banner and flowers, President Rtn Apala Datta interacted with as many as 35 children who had come with their mothers to collect the monthly nutrition packs, in the thatched hut school.
The children had a joyous time with President Rtn Apala Datta, who is herself a Teacher and the Principal of Birla Bharati. She got the children moving with a round of spot jogging before making their day by distributing gift hampers!
Each child received 3 exercise books, 1 drawing book, a box of pencils, 2 erasers and 1 sharpener, in addition to some dry food items.
The project was more gratifying as September is also Rotary Literacy Month
