President : Srabanee Chakraborty

Project initiated by Ms Soma Bhan and her core team consisting of Reshmi Mukherjee , Apala Dutta and Mrinmoyee Sarkar , Manashi Roy Choudhury, supported by Medica Superspecialty hospital.

Children of Correctional Home inmates are allowed to stay with parents till the age of 6, post which they are either sent to live with the other family members or at special Homes for them. It is extremely important to utilize the time they spend inside the Correctional Home fruitfully, and prepare them for the life they will face outside the confines of the guarded walls.
The Dum Dum Correctional Home was in need of a school to fulfil the above mentioned objective and hence In view of the above, with formalised processes, Rotary Club of Calcutta Avyanna (District 3291) has stepped in and adopted it as their flagship project. The launch of this project at Dum Dum Correctional Home was held on Tuesday, 10th October 2017. There were around 56 children between the ages of 3 to 5 plus, who would be able to benefit under this initiative. This would not have been possible without the whole-hearted support of Mr. Arun Gupta, DG Prisons.

The Club holds 3 hour classes from Monday to Friday, which would include a curriculum that would not only teach them how to read and write (with the help of professional teachers) but also groom them in other skills, imparted by the Avyanna members. Story-telling, short skits, table manners, music, dance etc. would ensure that the children’s interests are kept alive, and they look forward to attending the classes. Being Rotary Club of Calcutta Avyanna’s flagship project, it is being designed to be a lasting one.

The school was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister in charge, Women and Child Development and Social Welfare Dr Shashi Panja. DG & IG Correctional Home Service Shri Arun Gupta, Shri BD Sharma Advisor Correctional Home Services and Srabanee Chakraborty, President of Rotary Club of Calcutta Avyanna were also present.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
