On 25 August 2021, RC Cal Avyanna put their heart and soul into improving life at Village Sadhukhardari in South 24 Parganas, off Diamond Harbour Road.
Need lay for upliftment there in at least 3 Rotary Areas of Service 1) Disease Prevention (empowering women) 2. Environment 3. Community and Economic Development
14 Club Members travelled by car and later by totos, to reach the destination – a local Unicef School. A group of about 50 women & children greeted them with a Welcome banner and warm smiles!
At the meeting that followed at the school, Club President Rtn Apala Datta spoke to the gathering, comprising mostly of women, about Rotary and the purpose of their visit. She was joined by Club Secretary Rtn Chandreyi Mitra, while speaking on the necessity of following Menstrual Hygiene. A dialogue was also held with the audience for Needs Assessment for vocational training in the future
60 packs, each containing a pack of sanitary napkins, a bar soap, a sanitiser and 5 masks, were given away to the women.
Outside the school, 200 saplings were donated to farmers, men and women, with 100 of them being contributed by Member Rtn. Sanjukta Dutta.
Members next visit a 2 bigha land. Here foundations were laid by a local NGO for an eye hospital, but which lay incomplete due to lack of funds. The Project Report will be shared by the NGO with RC Cal Avyanna, for perusal.
The tour ended on a sweet note as the villagers packed local rosogollas, for the Club Members.
The Members then took a break to enjoy fellowship and lunch at a hotel on the banks of the river Bhagirathi Hughli.
